Chlorella
Also known as: chlorella vulgaris, chlorella pyrenoidosa, broken-cell chlorella
Recommended Dosage
2000–6000 mg
Chlorella is a single-celled green algae rich in chlorophyll, protein, vitamins, and minerals with evidence for heavy metal detoxification and immune modulation. Clinical trials show reductions in dioxin levels in breast milk, improved immune markers (increased NK cell activity), and modest reductions in blood pressure and cholesterol. Its unique Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) contains nucleic acids that may support cellular repair. "Broken cell wall" processing is necessary for nutrient accessibility.
TL;DR: Green algae rich in chlorophyll, protein, iron, and B12. Evidence for immune support and metabolic markers. Broken-cell wall form required for bioavailability. Complementary to spirulina.

Evidence Rating: Grade C — Preliminary
Limited human trials, mostly animal or in-vitro data. Promising but not yet proven in robust human studies.
Interaction Warnings
Stimulates immune response — may reduce immunosuppressant efficacy.
High vitamin K content may reduce warfarin effectiveness.
Important Notes
- Must be broken-cell wall form for absorption
- May cause initial GI upset or green stools
- Contains significant vitamin K — relevant for warfarin users
